Cannabis Oil Production

Cannabis oil is certainly a very broad term. That term can reference a number of different types of oils. From hemp seed oil to CBD based oils, cannabis oil could stand for any number of things. Often times, cannabis oil refers to either CBD or THC oil. These two types of oils are similar but have very different roles.

CBD oil offers the same kind of alleviation as THC, but it does not feature the psychoactive properties. CBD and THC are known to be used to treat various symptoms. Anxiety, depression, and inflammation are just a few examples. CBD is the oil used in medicinal purposes. On the other hand, THC offers the same alleviation but has a psychoactive property.

Extraction Process

The extraction process is lengthy and complicated. However, our machines will help you extract exactly what you are needing. View the process below.

Extraction

Plant material is placed in the extraction vessel with a solvent. The solvent can be ethanol, CO2, or another type. The solvent will help remove soluble components from the material.

Centrifuge Extractor

Once the biomass is dry, the solvent must be recovered. To do this, place the biomass in the rotor, fill it with chilled ethanol, and then agitate it to extract. It can then be spun at high speeds to obtain the extracted compound and ethanol.

Winterization

The process of winterization removes unwanted components from the extracted plant. Fats, lipids, and waxes are a few examples. This process only needs to happen if the extraction process was performed at high pressure/high temperature.

Solvent Recovery

Solvent recovery is the process where the cannabinoids need to be separated from the solvent. This is usually done with vacuum-assisted evaporation. This process can be fulfilled by a Rotary Evaporator, Falling Film Evaporator, or Rising Film Evaporator.

Decarboxylation

This process involved enriching the THC or CBD content. Any amount of non-psychoactive plant matter can be converted to THC through heat exposure. Heat is the driving factor in this process step as it causes the chemical rearrangement of the plant. It is capable of transforming THCA to THC and CBDA to CBD.

Distillation

Distillation’s goal is to separate the cannabinoids from any impurities such as plant material. Vaccum-assisted evaporation is the primary driving force of this process. The distillation is performed under reduced pressure.

Crystallization Reactor

The crystallization reactor allows the CBD to achieve a high purity. Simply dissolve the clear CBD oil that has already been winterized and distilled. Then, allow it to cool slowly, which will lead to crystallization.

Chromatography

This method separates and purifies the cannabinoids.
